Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina Presents
21 Hour Candlelight Vigil for
Child Abuse Homicide Victims

October 13th - 14th, 2000
1 pm Friday - 10 am Saturday
The State Capitol Grounds in Raleigh

Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina is sponsoring the 5th Annual, 21-Hour Candlelight Vigil for Child Abuse Homicide Victims. The event will be held on Friday, October 13th at 1:00 p.m., continuing through Saturday, October 14th at 10:00 a.m., at the State Capitol grounds in Raleigh.

Last year in North Carolina, 21 children were killed from abuse and neglect. The 21-hour vigil is a way for us all to remember these children and to raise awareness of what we can do to help prevent child abuse. At the top of each hour a candle will be lit and a few words spoken about one of these lost children.

The Opening Ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday and the Closing Ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, at the State Capitol grounds at Salisbury and Edenton Streets downtown.

At the Vigil you can:

  • find out about, and sign up for, volunteer opportunities

  • learn about North Carolina’s legislature as well as easy ways for you to be an advocate for children and families

  • get free parenting and child abuse prevention information

  • bring your children to participate in a poster contest for promoting child abuse prevention month

  • show your support for children.
